Ethical vitamin company Viridian Nutrition is honoured to be the first to receive the royal seal of approval, the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise.
The family-run supplement firm, based in Daventry, Northamptonshire, has been recognised for excellence in business in International Trade for Outstanding Continuous Growth in overseas sales over six years.
Founded in December 1999, Viridian specialises in the UK manufacture and sale of effective, ethical and pure health supplements. The multi-award-winning range spans 220+ nutritional oils and supplements, tinctures and topicals, all developed by expert nutritionists using clinically evidenced research.
Over the period 2015-2021, overseas sales have grown by 390% with the percentage exported rising to over 30%. Viridian’s markets range from Iceland to South Africa, to Continental Europe. With currently more than 25 distributors, the ethical nutrition company employs around 50 staff across the business.
Cheryl Thallon, Viridian Founder and MD, said: “It’s a great honour to accept this regal award acknowledging not only the success of our team and customers, but also our ethical commitment to spreading health and happiness across the globe. King Charles has long championed organics and complementary medicine and we applaud his continued work in these and other fields."
Continuing the legacy
The King’s Awards for Enterprise was previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, and the new name reflects His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The Award programme, now in its 57th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.
Supporting health retailers
From the very beginning, Viridian has always championed retailers on the High Street and equipping stores with the knowledge to help their communities. The global company is committed to the education and success of specialist health retailers. Its leading-edge new product development is supported by a far-reaching educational programme including free training for health store stockists.
Adopting an ‘earth first’ approach
Innovative and a driving force for ethics, Viridian has been pioneered ethical issues and led the way in many world firsts. These include the world’s first organic fish oil and the world’s first palm-oil free vitamin company.
Viridian is proud to be regarded as the leading brand of ethical vitamins and The Good Shopping Guide has consistently named the supplement company as a top rated socially responsible company for nutritional supplements, achieving a full ethical index score of 100.
Committed to being cruelty free, Viridian received Leaping Bunny accreditation for its topical ranges, and signed up to His Royal Highness, King Charles Terra Carta (or earth charter) setting a green roadmap to 2030.
Viridian is dedicated to 100% active ingredients, no animal testing, no GMO, no fillers, no added sugars, colourings, or artificial flavourings. The ingredients in the formulations are carefully sourced to ensure sustainability and minimal impact on the planet.
